Kathak

Samam Dance Center strives to groom students into comprehensive Kathak artistes. It seeks to establish a wider base for enjoying and understanding of Kathak. Derived from the word Katha, Kathak is unique among the Indian classical dances for its posture, elaborate footwork, lyrical lines and improvisations. Students can get trained under the tutelage of renowned masters of the art here.

Tabla

Samam teaches students the tabla, a classical musical instrument of India, which is part of North Indian classical music and folk music. Learning the tabla helps develop concentration and improves focus and diligence. Students can learn to play the table from well known practitioners at Samam.

Murari Sharan Gupta

The Managing Trustee of Samam, Shri Murari Sharan Gupta is a disciple of the renowned Pt. Birju Maharaj and a performer, choreographer and teacher. Having learned Kathak from his childhood he was under the tutelage of Pt. Birju Maharaj for several years. He has performed in India and abroad at well known dance festivals. He is also adept at folk dances, Kalaripayattu, contemporary dance and is an accomplished tabla and pakhawaj player. He is one of the leading Kathak gurus of Bengaluru.
